How long are the sessions?
The sessions last for 50 mins.
Do I need a doctor’s referral letter to attend?
No - you can contact us directly on 087/6573006 / 057 8638103 , email info@JohnCollinsCounselling.ie
Do I have to attend every week?
Appointments are usually weekly initially, but you can change the frequency to fortnightly, monthly, etc. to suit your progress and time/financial restraints - for you to get the best out of counselling, regular attendance is recommended and essential for steady progress, therefore if at all possible, it is important that you attend all your appointments as arranged.
Who decides on the appointment day and time?
At the initial session or as required your appointment day and time are mutually agreed to suit your own personal timetable with regards to work, college, or other commitments. It is important to be punctual for your appointment. Sessions start on the hour and usually finish at ten to the hour to allow time for change of client. Therefore, in the interest of privacy for both you and the previous client, arriving on time and on the hour is best for all.
Can I cancel or change my regular appointment?
We all understand that at times an emergency or something unavoidable can arise and we are unable to make our appointment - if you are unable to keep your appointment it is important that you give us at least 24 hours’ notice - please telephone 057/8638103 or 087/6573006
Can I just drop-in?

I will not advise, judge, diagnose, or in any way dis-empower you from finding your own solutions. From time-to-time I will provide some theoretical insight. Hopefully, through our working together, you will find a way to change what is possible and/or accept better that which you cannot change. Hopefully, by our working together, you will find your way to better live your life.
How long does therapy last?
It is recommended that you attend a further 6 sessions after your initial session to really give therapy a chance to succeed in helping you with your issues. After this time a review of progress will take place where you can re-evaluate your position and decide if there is still a need for you to continue therapy. The decision will always be yours to make.
